I grew these pumpkins and set the up on an old antique dresser I picked up at a local antique auction store. Wanting to create that homegrown country atmosphere I painted and included a market sign.
Previous to this painting I painted two other large produce paintings (see below) The first a commission and the second won a first prize and consequently is now part of the Mont De Lancy art collection. It was a miracle that I completed the first one as my late husband decided to cook one of the pumpkins during the course of the painting. When I noticed the little orange pumpkin missing I was horrified. He cheekily remarked that he thought I could just make it up. I admired his confidence in me but I knew better. Fortunately I did complete the painting.
A good reference is imperative to me when it comes to a traditional representational painting.
I have always loved the shape of pumpkins and these where no exception.
